They reflect natural conditions and socio-economic processes in the Arctic region. “The Arctic Ocean Atlas”, “World Atlas of Snow and Ice Resources” and others made in accordance with traditions of Russian cartography school. The Arctic region maps are given special position in the Russian National Atlas. The Arctic National Atlas is going to be published in 2017. The Atlas presents the most relevant information on the nature, economy, population and cultural heritage, history of development, strategic management and growth forecasts for the Russian Arctic. Extended electronic version is planned to be produced in addition to the analogue one. Scientific and methodical support of the Arctic National Atlas has vital organizational, systematizing and technological importance for the Atlas as a complex cartographic product. The book “The Arctic National Atlas: Experience, Texts and Map Legends” includes descriptions of scientific concepts and techniques of maps design, original map legends with English translation, extended annotations to maps in English. This will make it possible to inform the world scientific community about the particular features of the Russian Arctic development. The atlas and the book are unique because the national atlases, published before, have highlighted natural characteristics and conditions of the Arctic exploration mainly. The Atlas can be classified as a classic complex atlas, with a full representation of the natural, historical, cultural, socio-economic, environmental and geopolitical features of the Russian Arctic. The book expands the prospects for comprehensive study of the Russian Arctic region.
