Description
Summary:In Russia and all over the world, territories are being sacrificed as a result of human activities that rely on the environment by taking resources and destroying nature (accidents, pollution, nuisances, risks, waste). This article examines the experience of local communities living in relegated territories of the Arkhangelsk region in the face of the illegal construction of a landfill to receive millions of tons of household waste from Moscow. It is based on a research that followed the ongoing project, captured its dynamics, while analysing the resistance it generated. Through this study, we were able to grasp the links between spatial relations and activism in the territories concerned in the Russian Far North.
