The variability of rainfall in the region receives direct influence of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, such as what occurred in 2005 and 2010 years, when droughts had its genesis related to the warming of surface waters of the Tropical North Atlantic (TNA). The spatial area of study presented in this paper is in the Southern Amazon, on which presents an analysis of rainfall (temporal and spatial variability) from their local determinants and its extra-regional connections (ocean indices). Were treated (descriptive statistics) data from 41 meteorological stations distributed throughout the study area for the 1981-2011 period. The results confirm prior knowledge about the climate of this region of the Amazon, where the rain seasonality is a attribute; and show that rainfall in the Southern Amazon is largely influenced by existing features in the tropical region of the Atlantic Ocean, from where originates important part of the moisture present in the region. These characteristics have significant effects on the fauna, flora, rivers and coastal and urban populations of the area.
