Summary: | We investigated the meandering section of Ob River at the Barnaul municipal water intake No 2 as the main source of water supply for Barnaul. Current state of the section and governing trends of its morphodynamics are evaluated using fi eld data collected at the site for the past years. It is shown that now the section is at such a stage of its evolution after which the meander cutoff process would start. Methods. A channel morphodynamic computer model based on Delft3D program suite has been developed. Th e time of modeling covers the period from the fl ood peak to the low water stage in real non-stationary hydrological conditions. Th e simulation results are verified by the fi eld data. Results. In general, the results show acceptable agreement with the fi eld observations. However, some features of the sediment erosion\deposition process are not reproduced correctly. One of the possible engineering actions to ensure the future intake operability is investigated by the computer model developed. |
