As a result of the increased anthropogenic impact, there has been a trend towards an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and disruption of the fragile ecological balance of the Arctic territories. It was revealed that carbon pollution in the Arctic has its own characteristics associated with natural and anthropogenic causes. The low ability of Arctic ecosystems to absorb greenhouse gases, on the one hand, and the need to reduce the cost of production of Arctic enterprises in the current conditions, on the other hand, predetermined the need for CO2 sequestration in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. It is substantiated that the current deterrents for the decarbonization of the Arctic are geopolitical risks and sanctions pressure from unfriendly countries.
