Interpretation of Pol-InSAR Signatures from Glaciers and Ice Sheets at Different Frequencies

Based on the advances of recent Pol-InSAR studies for glaciological research, their limitations and the latest progress in understanding of polarimetric backscatter from snow and firn, the relationship between glacier subsurface structure and Pol-InSAR measurements at different frequencies is revisi...

The investigations are supported by a new airborne interferometric and polarimetric SAR dataset, acquired recently in Greenland, and available in situ measurements, e.g. GPR data. First results indicate strong volume decorrelation, which provides the link to the vertical distribution of scatterers and thus has the potential to derive geophysical subsurface information from Pol-InSAR data.
