Hurtos y estrategias de apropiación y encubrimiento en la «Descripción general del mundo» (1684) de Pedro Cubero

In 1684, the famous missionary Pedro Cubero published in Naples the book called Descripción general del mundo y notables sucesos de él. According to the title of text and Cubero’s own explanations, this work intended to review the main events of universal history, as well as a panoramic view of the physical and human geography of the four parts of the world. However, a quick approach to the text demonstrates the incoherence of its result, since it focuses almost entirely in dealing with the origins and conquest of the Tahuantinsuyo. The cause of this inconsistency is clear: Cubero’s book is an enormous plagiarism of the Miscelánea Antártica by Miguel Cabello Valboa. Our study aims to analyze the mechanisms used by Cubero to endorse the work of Cabello Valboa and hide your theft. Likewise, we will try to speculate about the possible causes of this maneuver of the missionary, according to his vital and literary trajectory En 1684, el afamado misionero Pedro Cubero publica en Nápoles la llamada Descripción general del mundo y notables sucesos de él. Según el título del texto y las propias explicaciones de Cubero, esta obra pretendía repasar los principales acontecimientos de la historia universal, así como una visión panorámica de la geografía física y humana de las cuatro partes del mundo. Sin embargo, un rápido vistazo del texto demuestra lo incoherente de su resultado, pues este se centra casi por entero en tratar los orígenes y la conquista del Tahuantinsuyo. La causa de esta incongruencia resulta clara: el libro de Cubero es un enorme plagio de la Miscelánea Antártica de Miguel Cabello Valboa. Nuestro estudio pretende analizar los mecanismos empleados por Cubero para hacer suya la obra de Cabello Valboa y ocultar su hurto. Asimismo, trataremos de especular acerca de las posibles causas de esta maniobra del misionero, de acuerdo a su trayectoria vital y literaria.
