The algae invented the chlorciphyl function and with it they brought the first oxygen to the earth's atmosphere. Algae occupy the first link in the food chain and they are a very rich nutritional source for the human being. In addition, they a l so have important therapeutic effects that can be of great help for certain pathologies. In this article we are going to get to know the classification of the algae, the ones mostly used for human consumption, their most outstanding nutrients and their most recommendable indications. lts pointed out that, for the first time values and references are included of an alga, the cochayuyo ordurvillaea antartica, which although it is normally consumed in certain countries of South America and it is being introduced into the European food market, is still not present in the diverse publications about a lgae. Las algas inventaron la función clorofílica y, con ella, aportaron el primer oxígeno a la atmósfera terrestre. Las algas ocupan el primer eslabón en la cadena alimenticia y son una fuente nutricional muy rica para el ser humano. Además, también tiene importantes efectos terapéuticos que puede ser de gran ayuda para determinadas patologías. En este artículo vamos a conocer la clasificación de las algas, las más utilizadas para el consumo humano, sus nutrientes más destacados y sus indicaciones más recomendables. A destacar que, por primera vez, se incluyen valores y referencias de un alga, el cochayuyo odurvillaea antarctica, que aunque tiene un consumo habitual en determinados países de Sudamérica y se está introduciendo en el mercado europeo de la alimentación, todavía no está presente en las diferentes publicaciones sobre algas.
