The following article´s primary focus is to describe chronologically through official sources and specialized bibliography, the genesis of Chilean scientific knowledge concerning the extreme southern-Antarctic territories from the geopolitical visionary appreciations by Bernardo O´Higgins, in the decade of 1820, until the publication of �Scholarly Map� by Alejandro Bertand in 1884, as well as, identify the principal institutions and men of science that, together with their publications, acknowledge at both a national and international level, the scientific works executed in Chile concerning these zones which through time were transformed into the inquiry that transcended into the first half of the 20th century, developed governmental institutions, higher education, academic-scientific centers and the armed forces. El presente artículo tiene por objeto describir de forma cronológica, y con fuentes oficiales y bibliografía especializada, la génesis del conocimiento científico chileno sobre los territorios australes-antárticos desde las visionarias apreciaciones geopolíticas de Bernardo O�Higgins, en la década de 1820, hasta la publicación del �Mapa Escolar� de Alejandro Bertand en 1884, como asimismo, identificar a las principales instituciones y hombres de ciencia que, junto con sus publicaciones, darán a conocer a nivel nacional como internacional los trabajos científicos realizados en Chile sobre dichas zonas, los que pasado el tiempo se convirtieron en la base de las investigaciones que, en la primera mitad del siglo XX, desarrollaron instituciones gubernamentales, de educación superior, centros científico-académicos y las Fuerzas Armadas.
