The urban land use and stadiums in Istanbul: A study of sports geography

Stadiums are very significant in urban land use. They cause the establishment of different functions in the places they are found. Three stadium cases from Istanbul are considered with respect to their importance and land use. Almost all of the spectators of different sports clubs feel same kind of affection or in other words, topophila towards their own club whereas the stadiums of different clubs provoke topophobia. The land use around the BJK İnönü Stadium hasn’t changed much since the 1940’s. During the period since the stadium has been built, residential buildings and then offices were built around Ali Sami Yen Stadium. The Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium’s surroundings have become dense with similar buildings and areas for spectators in time.Keywords: Stadium, topophila, topophobia, urban land use. Stadyumlar şehirsel kullanımda büyük öneme sahiptir. Özellikle bulundukları mekânlarda farklı fonksiyonların gelişmesine neden olurlar. İstanbul’dan üç stadyum taraftar açısından taşıdığı önem ve arazi kullanımı yönünden değerlendirilmiştir. Hemen hemen tüm kulüplerin taraftarları kendi stadyumları için sevgi duyguları beslemekte ve kutsal mabet kabul etmektedirler. Çoğu zaman her üç stadyum da rakipleri için korku mekânı olma özelliği taşımamaktadır. Arazi kullanımı BJK İnönü Stadyumu çevresinde 1940’lı yıllardan beri büyük değişim göstermemektedir. Ali Sami Yen Stadyumu’nun çevresi stadyumun yapılmasından günümüze kadar geçen süre içinde önce konutlar ile ardından işyerleri ile dolmuştur. Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadyumu çevresi zaman içinde daha yoğun yapılaşmaya sahne olmuş, taraftar mekânları yer almaya başlamıştır.Anahtar kelimeler: Stadyum, kutsal mabet, korku mekânı, şehirsel arazi kullanımı.
