The denuclearisation puzzle: Squaring IR theory with the nuclear-weapon-free zone’.
No single International Relations theory has yet satisfactorily explained the denuclearization of inhabited (i.e. Southern Hemisphere) and uninhabited areas (i.e. atmosphere, space, seabed, Antarctica). Scholars have responded with a number of case studies that provide compelling answers for regiona...

Scholars have responded with a number of case studies that provide compelling answers for regional successes, but work needs to be done if we are to understand the extensive coverage of nuclear-weapon-free zones. This paper—albeit tentatively—puts forward an answer to the denuclearization puzzle by setting aside those humanitarian arguments which have become increasingly fashionable, and (re)turning instead to the ecological dimensions of nuclear harm.
