Prime meridians: Greenwich and Washington. The fourth edition of Rand McNally's first atlas, dated 1878-9 on the title page. The first edition was issued in 1876-77, and only included the Pacific slope states. Phillips shows editions of 1876-77, 1877, 1878, 1878-79, and 1880. Maps with printed full and outline color. Atlas is bound in brown cloth covers with "Rand, McNally & Co's Business Atlas" and a train illustration stamped in gilt. The spine bears the same title plus the year "1879" in gilt. Phillips, 1402.
