The Melish maps are from the second edition of the Military and Topographical Atlas, but not including the two general maps of the northern and southern states and the coast. Also present are Melish's map of the U.S. to accompany Maclure's Geology, several maps of foreign countries by Carey maps of the West Indies by Lucas, and many maps by unknown makers, including one of Ross' arctic discoveries. "The map of the Country Belonging to the Cherokee and Creek Indians From the Original Drawing in the War Department" by Melish is a later edition and title than the one appearing in the Military and Topographical Atlas (see P1347 to compare). May have been published by A.T. Goodrich who acquired much of Melish's material after his death, or Robert Desilver who acquired the Carey maps. Atlas is bound in half leather, brown paper covered boards, with "Atlas" stamped in gilt on spine. P6053.
