The country needs a lot of electricity! There won't be enough – factories and plants won't be able to operate without it. Electricity is the best engine for industry. There is no energy in the world stronger and cheaper than electricity. According to the Five-Year Plan, we will build 42 powerful power stations. By the end of the Five-Year Plan, the USSR will receive 33 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Each kilowatt of electric energy will produce as much work in an hour as six human workers. Remember, thirty-three billion is a huge amount. Imagine the great power flowing through the wires: to factories—to turn machines, to collective farms—to grind and thresh, to schools, to workers' houses, to streets—to light up. Look at the map: here they are—these new power stations that we will build during the Five-Year Plan. 1. Baku 2. Dnieper 3. Zemo-Avchala 4. Rybinsk 5. Sukhanov 6. Grozny 7. Gheleznaya 8. Kuznetsk Interpretation of the map: The map titled "Electrification Map" illustrates the ambitious goal of the Soviet Union's Five-Year Plan to electrify the country. This plan was a central part of the Soviet economic strategy, aiming to rapidly industrialize and modernize the USSR. Here's a detailed explanation of the map: Key Elements of the Map: Geographical Coverage: The map shows the entire expanse of the Soviet Union, highlighting the extensive geographical area that the electrification plan aims to cover. Power Stations: The map features numbered icons representing the 42 power stations that were planned to be built under the Five-Year Plan. Each power station is numbered and listed on the left and ... Book laptev David Rumsey Historical Map Collection (Cartography Associates)
