Shows cities, topography, bodies of water, drainage, coastlines, ports, anchorage, shoals, islands, rocks and depths, given in fathoms, as well as arrows indicating the direction of water currents. Relief shown with hachures. Includes a legend, rhumb lines and a compass rose with north oriented toward top of sheet. Descriptive notes throughout. With three inset charts: Gaspee Bay -- Mingan Island -- Mingan Harbour. Also, with five profile views: Thus appears the Land between Island Bonaventura and Cape Roziers . Black and white copper-engraving. Chart is 85 x 78 cm, on fold-out plate 90 x 85 cm. First of three sheets (title appears on third sheet). Chart appears in first volume of atlas. Using the surveys of Captain James Cook and others, Jefferys began this chart atlas in 1768. The first edition of The North American Pilot followed in 1775 and was subsequently re-issued several times. Atlas comprised of nautical charts depicting waters in and around North America, such as the Hudson River, Boston Harbor, Chesapeake Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.
