Pilot chart of the North Pacific Ocean, published in 1898 by the U.S. Hydrographic Office, Bureau of Navigation, Navy Department, Washington, D.C. Gilt spine title and seal on front cover: Bibliothek Marinens. Verso to front cover has label - “Farvandsbeskr. B.II.a.l.” and stamps “Marinens Bibliotek, 2den Afdoling, Søkort-Arkivet . — Det Kongelige Danske Søkort-Arkivet.“ Volume comprised of 18 nautical charts of the North Pacific Ocean and North Atlantic Ocean on 14 leaves to plates - mostly double - with multiple charts together on certain plates. Charts show cities, coastlines, islands, sailing routes, ocean currents, storm tracks, weather forecasts, fog belts, equatorial rains, waterspouts, wind force and directions, as well as wrecks and derelicts. Data visualization illustrates wind force and directions. Descriptive text accompanies charts, covering topics such as weather, winds, ocean currents, fishing banks, an act prohibiting the killing of fur seals in the waters of the North Pacific Ocean, and equator crossings for sailing passages in the Pacific Ocean.
