Summary:Descriptive text to the 3rd. book. With engraved view, depicting men and women costumes from Greenland. Adam Olearius detailed description of the travel and exploration in Russia and Persia, published for the third and last time by Johan Holwein, Schlesswig in 1663. Adam Olearius was a secretary to an embassy sent by the German state of Holstein by Frederick, Duke of Holstein to explore an overland trade route with Persia. In 1633-34 the embassy secured the Tsar's permission to travel and ship through Russia. On the second trip in 1635 they completed the agreement with the king of Persia. Olearius published the first edition of his travels in 1647. In 1656 he released a second, enlarged edition which became very popular throughout Europe and within a few years was translated into Dutch, French, Italian and English. This 1663 edition contains 768 pages of text, added pictorial title page, 5 portraits, 33 pages of index at the end, numerous views and engraved maps, some folded. With exploration and discoveries through places and countries as Liffland, Russia, Tartaria, Medes and Persia. Showing inhabitants, nature, religions, boundaries, territories, topographical features and customs of women, Priests and religious figures of the region. Includes some Persian poems and Persian and Arabic text. Lacking some pages and some with wrong pagination. In full embossed vellum binding with with decorative metal latches and title on spine in black lettering.
