Shows provinces, cities and towns. 2 Volumes, fourth Edition of Postlethwayt’s The Universal Dictionary Of Trade and commerce, 1774. It is based in part on the Dictionnaire universel de Commerce (Paris: 1723-30) of Jacques Savary de Bruslon, under whose name it is often catalogued, but has been adapted by Postlethwayt for a British audience, with improvements, relating to England and her colonies. Includes a description of British affairs in North America since the peace of 1763. Titles in red & black with engraved vignettes. Both volumes include descriptive text in double columns on products, trading companies and treaties of commerce, and a vast range of other information of value to merchants. Bound in hard covers contemporary calf, with Vol. number on spines in gilt. Vol. 1: Contains engraved allegorical frontispiece by C. Mosley, text in double columns, and 24 folded map sheets, engraved by T.Kitchin or R.W.Seale, depict Europe (4 sheets), Asia (8 sheets), North America (4 sheets), South America (4 sheets), and Africa (4 sheets). The maps are updated from Anville by Boulton (although Boulton is spelled Bolton on these maps).
