This is a report about the Cape May Peninsula. It describes the flora and fauna that its 'Unique Ecosystems' support. In addition to being a migratory route for raptors such as as the sharp-shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus), osprey (Pandion haliaetus),and northern harrier (Circus cyaneus), it is also a habitat for endangered, threatened, and rare species such as the bald eagle [Haliaeetus leucocephalus],piping plover [Charadrius melodus], and swamp pink [Helonias bullata]. In order to protect these rare species the Cape May Peninsula has the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge. Furthermore, Cape May Peninsula's marshes and tidal creeks are a valuable fishery resource for species such as summer flounder (Paralichthyus dentatus) and bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix), American eel (Anguilla rostrata) and blue crab (Callinectes sapidus).
