Summary: | The North Atlantic Right Whale Sighting Survey (NARWSS), a NOAA Fisheries program, locates and records the seasonal distribution of North Atlantic right whales (Eubalaena glacialis) off the northeastern coast of the United States. This report is based on data collected during NARWSS flights conducted in 2011. The Right Whale Sighting Advisory System (RWSAS) supports speed restriction regulations for all vessels at least 65 feet to reduce the threat of ship collisions with right whales. RWSAS collected sighting reports from various sources, most commonly aerial surveys in 2011. |
