Ground penetrating radar and seismic data from the foreland of the glacier Midtdalsbreen (Norway), collected in spring 2018-2019.

This dataset contains raw ground penetrating radar (GPR) and seismic survey files collected over three sites at the foreland of the glacier Midtdalsbreen (60°34'N 7°27'E) in southern Norway (see site_locations.png). Information on data collection is provided is corresponding observer logs...

Information on data collection is provided is corresponding observer logs files (…_obslogs.xlsx). The data was collected in the spring, when the ground was snow covered. The aim was to test the performance of three geophysical techniques (GPR, seismic refraction, and multichannel analysis of surface waves; MASW) for the characterisation of the subsurface, in front of a glacier. Once processed, this data can reveal structures within glacial landforms and provide information on the elastic and electrical properties of the substrates beneath the survey lines. The file named exposure_coords.txt gives the coordinates of test pits and exposures created at each of the three study sites ( E1-E7 site_locations.png).Seismic files were collected using 48 vertical component geophones and a sledgehammer source with maximum seismic spread lengths of 47 m and 70.5 m for the Terminal Moraine Site and Hummocky and Lateral Moraine sites, respectively. The subsurface at the Hummocky Site violates the assumptions for planar and plus-minus seismic refraction interpretation so this data should not be used for these purposes.GPR data were collected using a MALÅ system with rough terrain antennas with central frequencies of 25 MHz and 100 MHz. At the Lateral Moraine and Terminal Moraine sites, data were collected along and perpendicular to moraine crests and at the Hummocky Site, data collection was undertaken on a grid. See Watts et al.
