Description
Summary:This figure comes from CIMR Deliverable 40 (CSA-1) entitled "Retrieval of Surface and Atmospheric Parameters from Multi-Frequency Microwave Radiometers: AMSR2 Compared With the CIMR Candidate Mission". Preliminary Sea Ice Thickness (SIT) fit functions for all CIMR channels. The data presented comes from the thin sea ice thickness dataset described in Heygster et al., (2014). The regression curves have been calculated for all CIMR equivalent channels however the sensitivity to SIT is mainly due to the L-band channels. The response at the higher frequencies can be observed for very thin SIT values (<15 cm) after which there is little variability with increasing SIT. While we do not expect the high frequency channels to contribute much information to the SIT parameter, we plan to demonstrate that a retrieval for eight parameters (including SIT) is possible using CIMR like input observations.
