The figures show the effect of the persistent cloud cover that hampers IR SST retrievals during the winter months in the Baltic Sea. Whilst the PMW SSTs from AMSR2 are an improvement, but have limited coverage due to the need to exclude coastal contamination. As CIMR is a passive sensor, the cloud does not affect retrievals and improved resolution leads to greater coverage of the area.
