Data values are calculated by dividing the total population of the entity (based on Census population estimates data) by the total land area of the entity (land area). The files contained in this dataset are from the Census Gazetteer Files, which were extracted from the Census 2000 Summary File 1 (SF1) DVD with Software Enhancement (Product Id: V1-D00-S1S1-08-US1). Area measurement data provide the size of geographic entities for which the U.S. Census Bureau tabulates and disseminates data. Area is calculated from the specific boundary recorded for each entity in the US Census Bureau's geographic database, TIGER, which is an acronym for the Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (system or database).
