Moving Vessel Profiling (MVP) data collected by the CCGS Amundsen in the Canadian Arctic

The Canadian research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen is equipped with a Moving Vessel Profiler (copyright) (MVP), a multi-purpose instrument used to collect both shallow and deep water data sets, without the need to stop the vessel. Data on physical and chemical characteristics of the water column are col...

Data on physical and chemical characteristics of the water column are collected during transects along which several consecutive casts of the MVP are conducted. The MVP was deployed during the Amundsen scientific expeditions, in the summer and fall of 2004 to 2018 with the exception of 2005 and 2006, where no data is available, and 2012 because the ship was undergoing maintenance. The components of the system varied slightly throughout the year but typically included a Micro CTD (Temperature, Conductivity and Pressure), a Micro DO2 (Dissolved Oxygen), a Micro SV (Sound velocity and Pressure) and an ECOFLO (Fluorescence) and a C-Star (Transmittance) probe. The MVP data were corrected and then controlled by comparing them to CTD-Rosette and thermosalinograph (TSG) data when available. Variables are provided for every decibar (dbar) between the maximum and minimum pressure recorded for each cast. Detailed metadata and reports are included to provide more information. : Purpose: The Moving Vessel Profiler (copyright) (MVP) is equipped with several sensors to record data on temperature, salinity, sound velocity, fluorescence, dissolved oxygen and transmittance in the water column. The MVP vertical profiles constitute ancillary data for all other data recorded during the CCGS Amundsen scientific expeditions by providing information on the prevailing physical oceanic conditions in which biological, chemical and physical samplings were conducted. They also provide long-term records of the basic parameters central to the study of physical oceanographic processes, more specifically water column structure, water masses characteristics and oceanic circulation, in the Canadian Arctic Ocean. For some years, the data collection surpasses the Canadian Arctic border, however, the main goal of this project is to collect data from the Canadian Arctic Ocean. : Summary: Not Applicable Dataset Arctic Archipelago Arctic Arctic Ocean ArcticNet Baffin Bay Baffin Bay Baffin Beaufort Sea Canadian Arctic Archipelago Chukchi Chukchi Sea Greenland Hudson Bay Hudson Strait Icebreaker Nares strait Northwest passage DataCite Metadata Store (German National Library of Science and Technology) Arctic Arctic Ocean Hudson Bay Chukchi Sea Baffin Bay Canadian Arctic Archipelago Canada Greenland Hudson Northwest Passage Hudson Strait ENVELOPE(-70.000,-70.000,62.000,62.000) Nares ENVELOPE(158.167,158.167,-81.450,-81.450)
