Ten years (2006-2016) of summertime oceanographic dissolved and particulate silica concentrations and four years (2013-2016) of diatom productivity and the kinetics of silicon utilization measured from water samples collected aboard the Sir Wilfrid Laurier in the Bering and Chukchi Seas

This dataset includes biological, chemical and environmental data associated with marine biogenic silica dynamics collected on eight oceanographic cruises in the Pacific Arctic Region onboard the Canadian Coast Guard Service Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Samples were collected on cruises that occurred in July of 2006, 2008 and yearly from 2011 to 2016. Seawater sampling was conducted throughout the euphotic zone within (or near) five biological ‘hotspots’ in the northern Bering and Chukchi Seas, as identified by the Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO). Data includes silicate and biogenic silica concentrations for all years. Lithogenic silica concentrations are included when samples were analyzed (2006, 2008, 2014-2016). Also included are data for silicon uptake rates and silicon uptake rate kinetic experiments from 2013 to 2016, and a 24-hr time-series of silicon uptake rates from 2014. Data are organized by row, with each row representing a single light depth or the euphotic zone depth-integrated value. An exception is for the time-series of silicon uptake rates, where each row represents the incubation time (between 4 to 24 hours in length).
