Summary: | Model description: Digital outcrop model the Treskelen Peninsula in inner Hornsund, S Spitsbergen. The model shows the foot of Hyrnefjellet to the left (North) with the famous Hyrnefjellet anticline. The anticline can be traced southwards by the bending of the outcrops along the beach. The model shows middle Carboniferous to Early Triassic outcrops of the Hyrnefjellet, Treskelodden, Kapp Starostin and Vardbukta Formations. The Carboniferous to Early Permian Hyrnefjellet and Treskelen FM's where deposited in a rift basin called the Inner Hornsund Basin and record terrestrial to paralic-shallow marine deposition of a mixed siliciclastic - carbonate sedimentary section. The Kapp Starostion and Vardebukta FM's record deposition in a deeper marine/platform environment divided by the Permian - Triassic boundary which records the largest mass extinction in Earths history.
