The methods used to obtain the sea-ice strain rates are described, along with a spatio-temporal coverage analysis of the data set. Some preliminary results of deformation statistics obtained with the new data set at 24hrs and 72hrs are also presented. We finally show how the discrete pixel-based feature tracking can lead to an apparent checkerboard pattern of linear kinematic features (LKFs) in the deformation fields when low drift gradients lead to displacements below the pixel resolution. Note: Slide 9 is an animation of the available shear rate data for 2 consecutive weeks. The animation can be accessed by downloading the pdf and clicking on the image.
