Description
Summary:Genus Parthenina Bucquoy, Dautzenberg & Dollfus, 1883 Parthenina Bucquoy, Dautzenberg & Dollfus, 1883. Type species by monotypy: Turbo interstinctus Montagu. Remarks: As discussed under Chrysallida , Parthenina was used as a subgenus by Aartsen et al. (2000) to include several species with strong, somewhat sinuous axial ribs crossed by weaker spiral cords, which are restricted at the lower region of the whorls. Such a pattern is present in the type species Turbo interstinctus , designated and illustrated by Bucquoy, Dautzenberg and Dollfus (1883: pl. 20, fig. 7). The synonymic confusion around this name was discussed by Wáren (1991), who considered it a junior synonym of Turbo interstinctus J. Adams, a position not accepted by Aartsen et al . (2000: 28). More recently, Schander et al .. (2003) included P. interstincta (sensu Wáren (1991), as well as P. affectuosa (Yokoama) and P. s a r s i i (Nordsieck) in a phylogenetic analysis using molecular data and based on the results, raised Parthenina to a full genus, a position followed in the present work. The two species herein studied fit very well in the concept of Parthenina and so are reallocated to that genus. In addition, several species included by Aartsen et al . (2000) in the subgenus Parthenina are similar to the two species herein studied. : Published as part of Pimenta, Alexandre Dias, Absalão, Ricardo Silva & Miyaji, Cintia, 2009, A taxonomic review of the genera Boonea, Chrysallida, Parthenina, Ivara, Fargoa, Mumiola, Odostomella and Trabecula (Gastropoda, Pyramidellidae, Odostomiinae) from Brazil, pp. 39-66 in Zootaxa 2049 on page 52, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.186507 : {"references": ["Aartsen, J.
