As with the previous genus, Paragathotanais is a eurybathic and cosmopolitan taxon. Confusion about the number of antennal articles has arisen following the diagnosis of Paragathotanais given in Bird & Holdich (1988) and the comments offered by Larsen (2007). Bird & Holdich defined the antenna of the relevant taxa as being six-articled, rather than five-articled as used by Larsen. This apparent conflict arises because the most basal article (article-1) is small and effectively fused to the cephalothorax. In order to preserve the homogeny of the antennal articles in descriptions and comparisons the Bird & Holdich terminology is used here, even though the detached/separated antenna has the appearance of being five-articled. ... : Published as part of Bird, Graham J, 2010, Tanaidacea (Crustacea, Peracarida) of the North-east Atlantic: the Agathotanaidae of the AFEN, BIOFAR and BIOICE projects, with a description of a new species of Paragathotanais Lang, pp. 1-22 in Zootaxa 2730 on pages 4-5, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.200143 ...
