Syntypes (NHRM 3170). Records. USA: Florida (Foster 1971a); Alabama, Texas (Johnson 1984). Venezuela: Morrocoy (Bone & Viéitez 2002). Remarks. Sigvaldadóttir & Mackie (1993) redescribed this species and noted additional distinguishing features. They mention that the species only occurs off Iceland. All records of this species for the Grand Caribbean are questionable. Foster (1971) presented a description of Prionospio steenstrupi based on material from Alaska, Canada and the east coast of the USA.
