Fuller, Malaise trap (PWMP). Paratypes : 1 male, same data; 1 male, 30.iv.–11.vi.1994, leg. E. Fuller, Alberta, Berland River at Hwy 40, 53.42°N, 118.20°W, pine forest, Malaise trap (PWMP); 1 male, 24.vii.1974, leg. P. H. Arnaud, USA, Oregon, Crook County, Cougar Campground, Marks Creek (CAS). Description . Male. Head . Eye bridge 2–3 facets wide. 4th flagellomere with l/w-index 2.2, haired as long as wide. Palpus 3-segmented, short; basal segment without deepened sensory pit and with 2–3 bristles. Thorax . Brown. Scutum haired whitish. Wings pale; R1= 2/3 R; c = ½ w; y shorter x, bare; posterior veins bare. Haltere short, brownish. Legs brownish; tibial organ small, comb-like; spurs of middle and hind tibiae with long but unequal spurs; claws toothless. Abdomen . Brown, haired whitish. Hypopygium brown, ventral base nearly closed and haired denser than the inner ventral margin of gonocoxites; gonocoxites slightly longer than gonostylus; gonostylus without apical tooth, with 5 spines near the apex and 2 closely neighboring spines in the middle of inner side, all spines with rather strong bases. Tegmen simple. Body size: 2.2 mm. Comments . The species is characterized by large gonostylus with 5 separate apical spines and a spine pair on a relatively large base in the middle of gonostylus. It is similar to Sc. fratercula Vilkamaa & Hippa but differs by the unfused base of the two spines at the inner side of gonostylus and the v-shaped base of the hypopygium. The species belongs to the Sc. paradoxa group. Distribution .
