description Sebastes aurora (Gilbert, 1890). Aurora Rockfish . To 41 cm (16 in) TL (Kramer and O’Connell 1995). Southeast Alaska (about 55°56’N, 135°26’W) (Laman and Orr 2011) to Isla de Cedros, central Baja California (Kramer and O’Connell 1995). Larvae have been taken off Banco Thetis (24°40’N, 112°18’W), southern Baja California (Moser et al. 1985), strongly implying that this species lives considerably farther south than its southernmost adult record. While Nelson et al. (2004) notes that records of this species from off Baja California may be based on errors in field identification, the presence of Sebastes aurora larvae many hundreds of miles below the U.S. – Mexico border strongly suggests the presence of adult fish in Mexican waters. If the species is not found in Mexican waters, the southernmost range is San Diego, southern California (Phillips 1957). Benthic; depth: 81–1,176 m (266–3,857 ft) (min.: Wilkins et al. 1998; max.: NWFSC-FRAM). : Published as part of Love, Milton S., Bizzarro, Joseph J., Cornthwaite, Maria, Frable, Benjamin W. & Maslenikov, Katherine P., 2021, Checklist of marine and estuarine fishes from the Alaska-Yukon Border, Beaufort Sea, to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, pp. 1-285 in Zootaxa 5053 (1) on page 106, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5053.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/5578008 : {"references": ["Kramer, D.
