To more than 10 cm (3.9 in) SL(Hulley in Whitehead et al. 1984).Circumglobal; western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Nakabo in Nakabo 2002); well off California (Savinykh 1999), northern Baja California (32°07’N, 119°29.2’W) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to Chile (Pequeño 1989).
