Circumglobal; Gulf of Alaska (59°15’N, 142°08’W) (Personal communication: University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Fish Collection, Seattle, Washington; confirmed by Katherine Maslenikov) to southern Baja California (27°01’N, 115°15’W) (De La Cruz-Agüero and Galván-Magaña 1992) and Chile (Pequeño 1989). Larvae have been taken south of Cabo San Lucas, southern Baja California (Moser et al. 1993).
