Vertical And Lateral Variability Of Soils Structure – Potentials For Environmental Reconstruction. Case Study Of The Middle Paeleoithic Alluvial Plain Of The Wallertheim Site (Germany).

This study highlights the potential contributions of soil studies to the environmental reconstructions in terrestrial context. The soils structure of the soil-sedimentary sequence of the Middle Palaeolithic site of Wallertheim has been analysed in details. The observation of the vertical and lateral...

The soils structure of the soil-sedimentary sequence of the Middle Palaeolithic site of Wallertheim has been analysed in details. The observation of the vertical and lateral variability of the soils characteristics as well as their related distribution on large section enabled to detect the impact of various and changing climatic and environmental conditions. As such the warm Last Interglacial slowly accumulating alluvial plain environment and the following strongly cold, permafrost witnessed alluvial and slope deposit are analysed and presented in this paper.
