Underway temperature and salinity were measured via thermosalinographs on the ships’ flow-through systems. The continuous measurements of O2/Ar were conducted by equilibrator inlet mass spectrometry (EIMS) (Cassar et al. 2009). Underway total O2 was measured using an Aanderaa optode sensor and calibrated by discrete Winkler titrations samples. The underway data were 8-minute averaged to account for the EIMS response time.
