Bombus terrestris lusitanicus Krüger, 1956 Common subspecies, distributed throughout the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, southern France and Madeira, with a wide elevational range, from 0 to 3000 m (Ornosa & Sanchez Ortiz, 2004). At present it has been collected in the Pyrenees in a broad ecological range (even in windy conditions and low temperatures not exceeding 9 °C) in forest biotopes and borders in meadows with subalpine scrubland, screes, slopes runoff and supraforestal pastures, on Achilegia vulgaris L., Epilobium angustifolium L., Aconitum vulparia Reich., Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.), Buglossoides arvensis (L.) I. M. Johns., Campanula glomerata L., Carduus acanthoides L., Carlina acaulis L., Centaurea scabiosa L., Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten., Cirsium acaule (L.) Scop., Cirsium monspessulanum (L.) Hill, Digitalis purpurea L., Echium plantagineum (Nox.), Echium vulgare L., Epilobium angustifolium L., Eryngium bourgatii Gouan., Phlomis lychnitis L., Gentiana alpina Vill., Iris latifolia L., Lathyrus pratensis L., Linaria badali Willk., Lotus corniculatus L., Medicago sativa L., Marrubium vulgare L, Onobrichis vicifolia Scop., Origanum vulgare L., Prunella vulgaris L., Reseda lutea L., Rhododendron ferrugineum L., Rubus ulmifolius Schott, Sempervirum montanum L., Silene acaulis (L.) Jacq., Taraxacum officinale Wigg., Trifolium pratense L., Trifolium repens L., Vaccinium myrtillus L., Vicia cracca L. and Viola odorata L. This bee is not regarded as being scarce or threatened (Table 2), on the contrary its populations are increasing in the Pyrenees and in the Iberian Peninsula, and its altitude range is expanding, being at present the widest in the peninsula (Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez 2004, Vargas et al . 2013).
