Barents Sea, Russia eastward across Siberia, and through the Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas to Greenland, and southward to Nova Scotia; in Pacific Ocean southward to western Bering Sea at Pavla, and Natalii Bays, and eastern Bering Sea, and eastern Aleutian Islands, and south-eastern Gulf of Alaska at Auke Bay (Mecklenburg et al. 2018). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 146 m (479 ft) (min.: Quast 1968; max.: Mecklenburg et al. 2018). Various reports of much deeper catches are not verifiable (Mecklenburg et al. 2018).
