Although also recorded from south-eastern Kamchatka to Commander Islands, this part of the range should be reevaluated on the basis of the new morphological information presented by Stein et al. (2003). Benthic; depth: intertidal to about 73 m (239 ft) (Pietsch and Orr 2019). Historically, the name L. rutteri has been applied to fish which actually represent two different species. The second species, L. adiastolus (see account above), was described by Stein et al. (2003). Mecklenburg et al. (2002) give Alaskan records in addition to those mentioned by Stein et al.
