A species endemic to the north-western Pacific (Mecklenburg et al. 2015), only unconfirmed records from Arctic and Alaska (Mecklenburg et al. 2011). Benthic; marine, brackish, and fresh waters (Dyldin and Orlov 2017); depth: intertidal to 65 m (213 ft) (min.: Mecklenburg et al. 2002; max.: Panchenko et al. 2016). Off North America, both Myoxocephalus scorpius and M . polyacanthocephalus have been mistaken for this species (Mecklenburg et al. 2015).
