Occurrence: Northeast Atlantic, from Iceland and Scandinavia to Cap Bojador (NW Africa; Mortesen 1907, 1927b, 1951b). Depth: 146– 1,500 m (Farran 1913). Habitat: surface deposit feeder on mud to detritic substrates (Farran 1913, Nichols 1959). Remarks: Agassiz (1872) reported Spatangus raschi from the archipelago based on a specimen present in the collection of the Breslau Museum. However, Mortensen (1951b) stated that there was no record of any S . raschi specimens from the Azores ever been housed at the museum.
