Type locality: ?Mediterranean Sea. See: Tortonese (1965); A.M. Clark & Downey (1992). Occurrence: Mediterranean Sea and East Atlantic, from Bay of Biscay (Koehler 1909) to Annobón Island in Gulf of Guinea (Nataf &Cherbonnier 1975), including the archipelagos of the Azores (Sladen 1889), Madeira (Wirtz 2006), Canaries (Garrido et al . 2004), Cape Verde (Koehler 1909), St Helena (Mortensen 1933c) and Ascension (Pawson 1978). Depth: 30– 1,140 m (Mortensen 1927a); AZO: 30–165(?823) m (Wirtz 2009, Sladen 1889). Habitat: hard to soft substrates (Garrido et al . 2004). Remarks: Sladen (1889) identified Chaetaster longipes among the material dredged by H.M.S. Challenger in the Azores (sta 75: 38°38’00”N, 28°28’30”W) at a depth of 823 m. We believe that this material came from much shallower depths than reported, possibly between 91–165 m (see remarks under Astropecten hermatophilus ). : Published as part of Madeira, Patrícia, Kroh, Andreas, Cordeiro, Ricardo, De, António M., Martins, Frias & Ávila, Sérgio P., 2019, The Echinoderm Fauna of the Azores (NE Atlantic Ocean), pp. 1-231 in Zootaxa 4639 (1) on page 88, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4639.1, http://zenodo.org/record/3342161 : {"references": ["Bruzelius, N.
