Small to medium-sized (19–48 mm SVL) mainly terrestrial and semi-aquatic frogs; discs on fingers and toes not, or only slightly, expanded (Fig. 3A); chromosome complement 2n = 22 or 24. Content. Three genera and 21 species. Distribution. North America from southern Alaska southward to southern Baja California, and east of the Rocky Mountains from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. Etymology.
