Diagnostic description. Head lateral cephalic lobe large, narrowly rounded. Antenna 1 peduncular article 1 without posterodistal spine; accessory flagellum present; accessory flagellum 2-articulate, article 1 short; flagellum without callynophore in female, [not known for male]. Mandible [lamina dentata and accessory setal row not known]; molar absent; palp attached slightly distally; article 2 [breadth not known], as long as article 3; article 3 with subparallel margins. Maxilla 1 outer plate with [at least] 7 setal-teeth , [setal-teeth cusps not known]; palp well developed, 2-articulate , with apical slender setae. Maxilliped inner plate small; outer plate large; palp 4-articulate, article 4 large. Gnathopod 1 chelate ischium smaller than propodus, not swollen posteroproximally; carpus extremely compressed; propodus length about 1.5 × breadth, posterior margin well developed, with posterodistal corner of palm attenuated , corner of palm without robust seta; dactylus over-reaching palm. Gnathopod 2 palm large, transverse. Pereonite 4 without dorsal spines. Pereonite 5 without dorsal spines. Pereopod 5 merus without posteroproximal shoulder. Pereopod 6 basis with posteroventral lobe produced beyond ischium; merus longer than broad, with weak posteroproximal shoulder . Pereopod 7 basis subovate with posterior margin smooth or weakly dentate. Epimeron 3 posterior margin with weak, blunt projection, posteroventral corner broadly rounded . Uropod 3 biramous, [inner ramus length relative to outer ramus not known]. Telson shorter than broad , entire. Distribution. South Shetland Islands, Southern Ocean; 405–578 m depth. : Published as part of Lowry, J. K. & Stoddart, H. E., 2012, The Pachynidae fam. nov.
