Material examined. Holotype (disintegrated, plates only) NHM UK 2013.1095, Stn 184: Pacific, Western Central (Coral Sea); 2562 m. Supplementary descriptions. Zevina (1981a) and Chan et al. (2009). Distribution. Pacific, Western Central and Southwest; Indian Ocean. Known depth range 1561 to 4162 m. Habitat. On crinoids and gorgonian corals. Remarks. Young (2007) noted the striking resemblance of this species to Arcoscalpellum mamillatum (Aurivillius, 1898). A detailed redescription of the holotype would help to confirm the validity of these species. Genus Catherinum Zevina, 1978 Arcoscalpellum Hoek, 1907: 85 (part); Newman & Ross, 1971: 42 (part); Liu & Ren, 1985: 202. Catherinum Zevina, 1978b: 1348. Diagnosis. Capitulum with 13 or 14 plates; upper latus umbo apical or sub-apical; carinal latus broad, umbo subbasicarinal, not extending beyond carinal margin; inframedian latus very narrow, bacilliform, umbo sub-medial caudal appendages long, with six to nine segments. Type species: Scalpellum recurvitergum Gruvel, 1902a. Composition. 17 species. Distribution. Worldwide, excluding polar areas. Known depth range 129 to 5540 m.
