Idiosoma wide and flattened. Dorsal and ventral plates large. Idiosoma with 5 pairs of Glps; Glp-2 sometimes on platelets within striated integument. Dorsum with 6 pairs of setae. Adanal setae present. AE with 3 or 4 pairs of setae. PE each with generally 4 or 5 setae. GA with Pgs. Sgs present on GS. GS furnished with external genital acetabula in brackishwater and freshwater species. Gnathosoma much longer than wide. Gnathosoma base without maxillary setae. Rostrum slender, parallel-sided, longer than gnathosomal base. Palpi 4-segmented, both adjacent or rarely separated from each other by width of P-1. P-2 with 2 dorsal setae; P-3 with a spur. Legs slender; Gn much shorter than adjoining segments. Lc I–IV crescent-like, without comb. Median claw undeveloped. The general structures of the genus is schematically shown in Fig. 4. Remarks. The genus was established by Trouessart in Trouessart & Neumann (1901). The genera Leptognathus Hodge, 1863 and Trouessartella Lohmann, 1901 are equivalent to this genus. The majority of species in southern hemisphere have large Glps on AD, OC, and PD, which are rare in northern hemisphere species. The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution and is widely distributed without regard to marine, brackishwater, and freshwater. References.
