For comparison, the local Icelandic Sheepdog usually has a height of 42-48 cm at the shoulder. This is a spitz type breed, thought to originate from Norwegian spitz type dogs brought over by the Viking settlers. As with other Icelandic animal breeds, there is now a closed gene pool but prior to that it is unlikely that there was much outside influence.
