Recognition. This species of Clinocera is readily distinguished by the presence of an auxiliary crossvein between R 2+3 and R 4, lower half of face with silvery pruinescence and a dark ring around the anterior spiracle (Fig. 3). Distribution. A Holarctic species distributed across the subarctic and arctic areas of Eurasia and North America (Sinclair 2008). In Russia, C . nivalis is known from Murmanskaya Province, Novaya Zemlya, north of Yakutia, Chukotka and Wrangel Island. Habitat. On Wrangel Island, this species was collected in various wet habitats.
