4. Pteropus hypomelanus Temminck, 1853 Variable Flying Fox New records Middle Andaman Islands: Baratang Island, Neil Island and Karmatang. Previous records North Andaman Islands: Narcondam Island and Barren Island (Andersen, 1912; Aul et al. , 2014). Comments Only four specimens were captured and collected. Aul et al. (2014) reported the sighting of this species from Barren Island. During the present study we sighted this species in South Andaman Islands at Ross Island and Port Blair, and in Middle Andaman Islands at Oralkatcha, Nayadera, Kadamthala, Rafter’s Creek, Badurnala, Mayabunder, Karmatang, Neil Island, and Interview Island. Pteropus hypomelanus geminorum , a widespread species in the Andaman Islands, with colonies observed at many locations, has been observed to travel considerable distance from colonies for feeding.
